The Area Selector Tools will select parts of your course by terrain type, altitude and grids rather than by an arbitrary shape. This is easiest way to instantly select a single green, fairway, river or cart path.
Once an area is selected a black-and-white dashed line, called a marquee,
will appear in the Top View; if the selected area is also within the camera's view angle, the marquee may also appear in the Camera View. The white box on a marquee is called a Control Square.
Clicking on a particular type of terrain (such as green, fairway, water or rough) with this tool will draw a selection marquee around that piece of terrain.
The selection will contain the entire contiguous area of that terrain, but won't include separate areas with that same terrain.
This tool lets you select areas by their altitude.
If you hold down the Shift key and click on a spot with this tool, the Course Architect will select all areas on the course that are lower in altitude than the chosen spot.
If you hold down the Control key and click on a spot with this tool, the Course Architect will select all areas on the course that are higher in altitude than the chosen spot.
If you click on a spot with this tool and don't hold down either the Shift or the Control key, the Course Architect will choose the entire contiguous area around that spot that is of the exact same altitude. That area must be perfectly flat, however, or else nothing is likely to happen.
This tool is only available in the Top View. Clicking on a spot selects the entire large grid square in which that spot is located. Clicking in that grid square a second time de-selects it. You may select as many grid squares as you want. When you're finished, right-click and choose Done from the pop-up menu.
This tool is used primarily in the Camera View (although it can be used in the Top View if you zoom in sufficiently close). Clicking on a spot selects the small grid square in which that spot is located. Clicking in that grid square a second time de-selects it. You may select as many grid squares as you want. When you're finished, right-click and choose Done from the pop-up menu.
A square 32 small grids by 32 small grids equals one large grid in the Top View.
This tool is available in both the Top View and the Camera View. Clicking the point of the eyedropper cursor on a given spot copies that spot's terrain type onto the Toolbar, and also copies that spot's altitude into the Fill Relief dialog box. This lets you exactly copy the characteristics of a given point on your course.
True to its word, this tool selects your entire course. It's particularly useful for making global changes to your entire course.
